Yesterday (Nineth of February ‘17 ) evening near midnight I got an announcement I will never forget, the memory will never stop making my skin crawl. I got the message “They found her body.”
Everyone goes into these things thinking “this will never be me”, “these kind of things don’t happen to me”. Truth is it does happen, and you will end up hurt, taken, or worse…
We all have that good friend with siblings you spend a little too much time around and you think of them as that annoying sibling but if anyone looks at them wrong fear thy wrath. That’s what Sashia was to me, this annoying little sister I co-opted and hated and loved at the same time.
She was a twenty year old beautiful young girl who collected Pokemon figurines, she was on facebook groups around it to try and find people to trade the ones she was missing for doubles she had and such. Normal everyday stuff.
Tuesday she had 2 appointments in the city I live, one was with a friend to go shopping an other was a stop along the way at the place of someone from the group to do a quick trade. She never showed up to go shopping. Wednesday she was plastered all over the news, Thursday evening they searched a house today we’re all hoping it’s a sick nightmare.
Please when meeting up with someone you met online don’t go alone, don’t meet up at their place instead meet up in a public places, and always tell someone the exact location you are going and how long it is going to take.
I am not victim blaming, things like this should NOT happen, but it’s a sad truth that these things DO HAPPEN.
So please, I BEG of you, no matter how well you think you know the person, how safe you think they might be… please don’t risk it until you have met them in person at least once… People often turn out to be very different irl from on the web.
Dear followers, please reblog this. We all know at least one person that has met a good friend online and therefore think it’s safe, but the truth is that there are horrible people out there that only want to hurt others. There are young and impressionable boys and girls that may be a little naive or too trusting and they need to be careful. Please signal boost this to prevent this from happening to another human being. Please be careful. Stay safe.
As a fellow Dutch Pokémon fan this news really hits me, first of all; my condolences to the family. As the OP said; DON’T meet up at their place. Meet up in public and don’t let them talk you into following them home.
